Year 12 Macleans College student Lele Sanileva (Te Kanawa House) was awarded the Female Empowerment Award at the recently held Zonta Club of East Auckland’s Annual Awards Ceremony.
Formerly named the Year 12 Female Leadership award, Lele was presented with the trophy and a monetary prize.
Lele is a positive influence on her peers, and throughout her whanau house and extra-curricular activities. She is a Peer Support leader, senior leader of Kapa Haka and leads the school Siva group. Working with junior students in Te Kanawa House, she encourages all juniors to reach their full potential and works to ensure they are welcomed into the Macleans College culture.
Lele is a tutor at Bucklands Beach Intermediate and teaches Kapa Haka and Siva on a weekly basis, giving back to the local community. Lele is someone who can lead students but can also be in the background getting the mahi done. Lele goes above and beyond to ensure people feel seen, heard and valued.
Former Macleans College student Bo Burns (Mansfield House 1992 – 1995) was also recognised. She was awarded the Zonta Club of East Auckland’s Founders Day Award, for her contribution to the Howick community and in particular the re-establishment of the Times.
Also in attendance was former Macleans College Deputy Principal, Sue Miller (1980 - 2003), who was a Charter member of East Auckland Zonta and currently an active Zonta member, and former Macleans College Counsellor, Gay Gallagher (2009 - 2016) - a past president of Zonta East Auckland.
