A Macleans College team has won the Social Entrepreneurship Award for the Auckland University Velocity Innovation Challenge.

Receiving a prize of $1000 and a Microsoft Bizspark package worth $1000, a Macleans team has won one of the most contested categories in the Velocity Innovation Challenge. From winning this competition the team has also gained entry into the Velocity $100k Challenge – Auckland University’s premier business plan competition with prizes including seed capital, mentoring and business incubation.

The competition was a part of the University of Auckland Entrepreneurship Programme and was designed for full-time university level business students, putting the Macleans team up against university business school student companies. The team was able to enter the competition as both of the Year 13 members are currently enrolled as students of the university through the Young Scholars Programme. The Macleans team received their award at the Prize Giving Ceremony on Thursday 26th May.

The team consisted of CEO Helen Wu (Te Kanawa House), Communications Officer Jonathan Shaw (Batten), Marketing Director Vincent Wang (Mansfield) and Finance Officer Wayne Zhou (Kupe). They competed under the name of their Young Enterprise Scheme company, MOSAIC - an e-commerce platform dedicated to providing small, ethical businesses with support by facilitating their marketing process for them.
