Year 9ENA and Book Club trip to ASB Theatre
Posted on May 31, 2019
Fifty-six students attended the annual Auckland Writers’ Festival on Wednesday 15 May.
The festival organisers put on a special schools programme to give students the opportunity to meet, listen to, and speak to well-known authors from around the world.
Year 9HEEB and 9JOHH were joined by the school book club members to enjoy the day and hear from Sally Gardner (author of Maggot Moon, Tinder, and I, Coriander), Renee Watson (author of Watch Us Rise, and Piecing Me Together), Akala (British Hip-Hop and Shakespeare enthusiast and academic), and Markus Zusak (author of The Book Thief, The Messenger, and Bridge of Clay).
These inspiring authors talked about finding their storytelling voices, creating narratives, plots and sub-plots, and overcoming challenges. Their words of wisdom were often hilarious, eye-opening, and very poignant. It was a fascinating experience.
