The Macleans College Year 13 Social Studies classes are currently studying the inquiry topic of euthanasia.
As part of the NCEA Level 3 Social Studies course, students’ debate, discuss and examine the causes and effects of social issues, while gaining understanding of differing values and perspectives.
To assist with their study, the students were visited by the Leader of ACT New Zealand, David Seymour, whose Member’s Bill led to the introduction of the End of Life Choice Act.
The students then attended a zoom session with Palliative Medicine specialist, Dr Sinead Donnelly and Director for The Nathaniel Centre for Bioethics Dr John Kleinsman.
Robust questions were asked by the students, in order to explore all sides of the issue. The students and their teachers are grateful for the time these speakers dedicated towards the students; it was incredibly helpful.
