Year 13 Outdoor Education students conquer The Pinnacles

Posted on September 21, 2023

The Year 13 Outdoor Education students recently had the opportunity to complete the Kauaeranga Kauri Trail (Pinnacles Walk) and stay overnight in a Department of Conservation (DOC) hut.

The trip was part of their learning regarding risk and safety management. Students planned all parts of the trip and were able to learn from the on-site DOC Ranger about the important aspects of care and conservation that takes place to protect the hut and its grounds.

This was a great opportunity for students to look at the risks that are involved when planning any trip outside the classroom but also experience the beautiful New Zealand environment. The weather provided a beautiful walk, and the students were able to reach the Pinnacles Summit Peak. All students had a great time.
