Posted on August 14, 2018
Year 13 NCEA and A Level Design students had the opportunity to visit Hamilton to attend SPARK, an annual Art and Design conference held at the Waikato Institute of Technology.
Students attended lectures and artists talks from multimedia photographer Angela Tiatia (Australia), writer and social artist Sara Radin (New York City) and Art Director Jeff Burch (New York City).
They also explored the ArtsPost Gallery and the Waikato Museum, currently exhibiting works for finalists in the 2018 National Contemporary Art Awards.
The day was finished off with a visit to Ramp Gallery, to view an exhibition from Pati Tyrell and Jermaine Dean (New Zealand). Students heard from the gallery curator, Wendy Richdale who explained the culture of the Auckland’s underground Vogue scene and representation of LQBTQIA pasifika and indigenous communities in the artwork.
