Year 11 Geography Trip to the Auckland CBD
Posted on August 10, 2018
On Wednesday 1 August the Year 11 IGCSE Geography classes travelled into Auckland City to test their urban settlement knowledge and develop their geographic skills.
Initially they went to different places around Auckland where they studied the changing zonal land use. This included different types of businesses, houses, age of buildings, and the ways that the land has been used and shaped. Zones that were studied included East Tamaki, Mount Wellington, Glen Innes and Mount Eden.
The students climbed to the top of Mount Eden and tested their artistic abilities as they completed a field sketch of the Auckland CBD and surrounding areas. When they reached the city one of their tasks was to locate two urban issues and find solutions to them. The students observed that the central city had a lot of traffic congestion. Most areas were accessible by car and there were few solely pedestrian areas.
