Whirlwind Market Day
Posted on July 06, 2021
Rain subsided just minutes before Year 9 Enterprise students gathered in the Amphitheatre to set up their stalls ready for Market Day on Tuesday 29 June.
The mufti day seemed to put students in the mood for consumption and there was soon a whirlwind of buying and selling.
One business team sold out all their goods in the first ten minutes of trading. Several others also sold all their tasty food and beverages in the forty minutes allotted to them.
One team made $400 during lunchtime, coming away with a net profit of $240. Another team shied away from edibles deciding rather to market personalised key rings, which were mostly pre-sold using social media marketing.
Market Day gives students first-hand experience of being entrepreneurs and taking financial risks in the hope of generating a profit. Each team had to come up with a comprehensive Business Plan and work together in the production, marketing and financials of their business activity prior to the event.
