Posted on July 25, 2019
Mr Steve Fotherby retired at the end of Term Two after a teaching career of nearly fifty years.
His career started in the UK in September 1969 with training at Stainforth Secondary County School near Doncaster in South Yorkshire. This was followed by a period at Victoria Boys’ School in Watford on the outskirts of London before he and his wife, Lesley, emigrated to New Zealand in 1974.
His first position here was with Papatoetoe High School where he remained until 1990. He then moved to Macleans College where he has been a most valuable member of the Mathematics department and a stalwart of the timetabling team. Steve has taught the full age and ability range including AS courses as well as core and accelerated Year 9 courses. Many students have appreciated his highly regarded teaching style over the years.
Steve has also been in charge of orienteering and athletics and has coached football and cross-country running.
Steve has decided to devote more time to his family, including seven grandchildren, and will be moving to Hamilton to be nearer to them. In the meantime he has been enjoying some overseas travel with recent destinations including central Asia, Belarus, Ukraine and Italy with further time to be spent in Europe soon.
Best wishes to Steve in his retirement and safe travels for the future.
