Macleans College entered two teams into the 2023 Auckland Cup, a secondary schools teams racing event hosted by Royal Akarana Yacht Club.

Unstable winds and long days on the water challenged both of the Macleans College teams.

The Macleans College Blue team of Captain James Blyth (Kupe House), Logan McKay (Rutherford), Tim Townend (Te Kanawa), Rhys Money (Hillary), Andre Teodorescu (Hillary), Lara Teodorescu (Hillary), Tyler Marsh (Mansfield) and Connor Smith (Rutherford) finished fifth in the silver fleet.

The Macleans College Red team of Captain Tim McCulloch (Rutherford), Madi Russell (Snell), Oliver Baverstock (Kupe), Anna Waymouth (Snell), Callum Noyer (Mansfield), Pedro Miranda Corte-Real Vantacich (Batten) and Stella Robson (Snell) finished eighth in the gold fleet.

Both teams were very happy with their race performance and came away with substantial learnings after competing against 21 other Auckland schools.

The Macleans College Red team (minus Stella Robson) with the addition of Logan McKay and Tim Townend will be travelling to Algies Bay over the school holidays to compete in the National Championships for secondary schools teams racing.
