Upham House ANZAC Assembly 2023

Posted on May 03, 2023

On Tuesday 2 May Upham House held a student-led ANZAC Assembly to remember the service members who fought for New Zealand and the freedom of the country.

Upham House thoroughly embraces the idea of service through their dedication to school pride and their donations to the Royal New Zealand Returned and Services Association (RSA). During the assembly Upham House students acknowledged the selfless and influential role of the men and women on the front lines. These are dedicated people who would give their lives to fight for the freedoms of New Zealanders.

The staff and students of Upham House acknowledged those who fought in the ANZAC forces at Gallipoli and all service members who fought and defended New Zealanders through conflict. On this day, tributes were paid and those assembled expressed their gratitude.

Special guests at the Upham House ANZAC Assembly included Mr Leo Abbott (Chair of the Howick RSA), Major James Hannah (son of the doctor who saved the life of Charles Upham). Also in attendance was Principal Mr Steven Hargreaves, Macleans College Senior Management and the school Head Prefects.

Upham House is named after Charles Upham, a New Zealand soldier who earned the Victoria Cross twice during the Second World War.
