Tsugaru Shamisen Workshop for Japanese Learners

The Consulate–General of Japan in Auckland presented a special event for school groups, the “Tsugaru Shamisen Workshop” with the internationally acclaimed Tsugaru Shamisen artist Hiroshi Yamaguchi.
Macleans College students participated in this recent event. They were able to experience the Shamisen by holding and playing the instrument. This was a rare opportunity for them. The instrument is known for its ethereal and emotive sound.
Two of the four players came from Japan and performed in the Annual Japan Day celebrations in central Auckland.
