Posted on September 17, 2024
The Macleans College Premier Netball team took part in the Upper North Island Secondary Schools (UNISS) Competition, held at Waitakere Netball Centre, Henderson from 2 - 6 September.
In the lead up to the competition, the team played in the Auckland Netball Centre Competition. The girls finished the season in seventh place out of 12 teams - four places higher than last year.
On the day before the UNISS Competition, the team undertook training, completed a body balance class at Les Mills and gathered for a team dinner with family.
UNISS is one of the biggest and most competitive secondary school tournaments in the country. Each team participated in two 40 minute games per day, which over the space of the week, equated to 400 minutes of netball and 249 goals scored.
After ten games of netball the team achieved an overall placing of 24th in A Grade; the best result for the Macleans College Premier Netball team since 2018. More importantly, the team secured their position in A Grade, avoiding relegation. This was the team’s number one goal heading into the UNISS Competition.
The team can be very proud of their efforts; they faced some very hard competition, but never gave up - putting in 100% effort until the last whistle of the final game. The girls were grateful for the amazing support received from family and the school community.
The team would like to thank their coach Adelle Hunkin and manager Mrs Rawlings, for their significant contributions to the team’s success this season.
