Tournament Week 2024: Fencing

A group of 20 Macleans College fencers participated in the Senior Secondary Schools Fencing Championships, held from 7 - 8 September at Mount Albert Grammar School.
The highlight of the individual competition was Ken Zhong (Hillary House) achieving a bronze medal in the Men’s Sabre.
In the teams competition, Macleans College excelled. The students worked well together and certainly proved their worth. All three teams entered were awarded with silver medals:
Men’s Foil
Eddy Zheng (Snell), Craig Chong (Upham), Matt Wang (Mansfield) and Maxwell Chen (Upham).
Men’s Sabre
Ken Zhong, Allan Zhao (Kupe), Matteo Carter (Upham) and Harry Zhou (Upham).
Ladies’ Sabre
Gisele Lau (Te Kanawa), Clare Wang (Mansfield), Cecilia Ma (Mansfield) and Hope Zhang (Rutherford).
The Ladies’ Sabre team performed exceptionally well, providing spectators with the most exciting fencing of the day.
The event was very well organised; thank you and congratulations to tournament executive Fiona Campbell and her team. A huge thank you also to coaches Rory Ogg (foil) and Detroit Evans (sabre). Their expertise and passion for fencing inspired and motivated the Macleans College team.
