Tournament Week 2024: 1st XI Girls Hockey
Posted on September 19, 2024
The Macleans College 1st XI Girls Hockey team travelled to Whangarei to compete in the Chica Gilmer Trophy for tournament week.
The team played an outstanding tournament, finishing sixth out of 28 teams.
The first two days consisted of pool play, against some very challenging teams. Macleans College finished top of the pool which came down to goal difference - so fierce was the competition.
In the quarter finals, the team was defeated by a skilful Te Kura Kaupapa Maori o Ruamata team, who were eventual tournament champions. In spite of having only one sub for this game due to a raft of injuries, the girls played well and fought to the final whistle.
Throughout the week, the girls represented Macleans College with pride, maintaining a positive attitude on and off the field. They played some excellent hockey, exhibiting substantial individual skills as well as commendable teamwork.
Thank you to coach Miss Uden for her dedicated leadership, tactical knowledge and unwavering belief in the team’s ability. Thanks also to Ms Connolly for her management of the team - much appreciated by all.
