Despite harsh weather conditions, twelve Macleans College students braved the elements at Totara Park to compete in the Auckland Schools Rogaine Championships.
Thankfully there was some respite from the weather. Between thunderstorms students had a 90 minute window of running time that allowed them to navigate through a map full of controls to attain the highest possible score. The students raced hard despite the wet conditions and came away with a range of high placings:
- Lily West (Upham House) and Millie Thompson (Batten) - second in the senior girls division
- Christian Lianto (Snell) and Eden Wu (Hillary) – second in the junior boys division
- Cody Tang (Hillary) and Lucas Kato (Mansfield) – third in the junior boys division
Rogaine is a form of cross-country navigation, or orienteering, in which individuals or teams visit as many checkpoints/controls as possible within a given time limit. Participants travel on foot, navigating using a map and compass. Each control is allocated at a different point on the map which in turn directs the competitor to the location of the next control.
