Posted on August 17, 2023
Last weekend the Macleans College rock climbing team took part in the fourth and final round of the Auckland College Climbing series. This was a bouldering competition at Boulder Co. in West Auckland.
Macleans College was represented by 21 students, who all demonstrated enthusiasm, perseverance and sportsmanship. Some excellent results were achieved.
In round four of the competition Cullen Campbell (Batten House) placed third in the Senior Boys competition and Klaas Kamp (Kupe) placed second in the Intermediate Boys Competition. The bouldering problems in the final round were particularly challenging, but both Cullen and Klaas were calm and considered in their approach and performed extremely well.
As well as this, based on results in all four climbing competitions throughout the year, Cullen was named as Senior Boys champion in Auckland, and Klaas was third overall in the Intermediate Boys.
Lydia Anderson (Mansfield) was also acknowledged as the Most Improved Senior Girl for the climbing series.
Overall Macleans College placed second in Auckland for the 2023 climbing season, narrowly falling short of first place by a mere 4 points.
Climbing is growing at Macleans College and the school is enjoying considerable success in this exciting and dynamic sport. Students, parents and coaches can be justifiably proud of this success. The Macleans College rock climbers look forward to building on this success at the New Zealand Secondary Schools Climbing Competition, in two weeks’ time.
