Posted on November 24, 2020
Nine motivated Macleans College students took part in the AUT Speech contest recently and five students were awarded with several prizes.
The prizegiving ceremony was held at the AUT Tower. The very top prize – a JTB Travel Voucher worth $1000 was won by Year 13 student Kitty Cheng (Batten House) and was provided by the Japanese Chamber of Commerce of Auckland, Nisui-kai. The prize prior to COVID-19 was a free trip and homestay to Japan. Kitty Chen had to go through a tough Q & A session in Japanese through a Zoom interview.
All nine participants had to deliver their speeches in front of groups. They included Chongjun Zhao (Mansfield), Koki Imamura (Batten), Andrew Yao (Upham) and Angel Loh (Hillary) who all learnt public speaking.
The prizes were sponsored by Nisui-kai, Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University, The Japan Foundation, Consulate-General of Japan in Auckland and the University of Auckland.
As a result of their great efforts, the following students received prizes and attended the prizegiving ceremony. Taking part in any speech competition is a great way of learning public speaking.
