Top performances at the National Athletics Championships 2019

Posted on December 13, 2019

The National Athletics Championships were held in Wellington from 6 – 8 December.

Macleans College had a 35 strong team participating in this event. A tough weekend followed with the infamous Wellington weather playing its part, with 45+ km hour winds to contend with, thunderstorms and lightning which forced the Road Race section of this event to be cancelled for health and safety reasons. In spite of the weather two athletes performed very well.

Christian De Vaal (Kupe House) achieved a second place in the 3000 m junior boys with a time of 8.56 min and Desmond Van Der Linde (Snell) followed with a third place in the 110 metre hurdles running a 14.98, with just 0.40 sec (winning time 14.58) separating first through to third place.

The future for both athletes in the 2020 season is very promising.

Many thanks to Mr Anderson and Ms Reid for accompanying the students to Wellington.
