Malo 'etau lava.
Earlier this month Macleans College students and staff celebrated Uike Kātoanga’i ‘o e lea faka-Tonga (Tongan Language Week). This year the theme was - Ke Tu'uloa 'a e lea faka-Tonga 'i Aotearoa, which means: Sustaining the Tongan Language in Aotearoa.
To support the overarching Language Week theme of sustainability, the word Tu’uloa means to grow continuously, nurture, and sustain a valued idea, practice, event, or memory in an enduring way. As a school, this is important as Tongan students at Macleans College are proud of their culture, heritage, and family.
During Tongan Language Week there were many opportunities for staff and students to be a part of, such as; the national anthem and flag raising ceremony, a video acknowledging Tongan words and phrases as well as a cultural food stall at the end of the week.
On behalf of all the Tongan students, a big Malo to all who participated in Tongan Language Week.
