Macleans College place third in Hillary Outdoor Adventure Race
Posted on August 21, 2024
Macleans College entered two teams into the Hillary Outdoor Adventure Race, held in Onehunga and West Auckland.
This race was the Auckland Regional Final, providing a chance to qualify for the National Get2Go.
The students competed in a one hour orienteering rogaine, with both teams clearing the main and bonus maps. They then moved to a stand-up paddleboard (SUP) and a racing kayak relay. The slim line kayaks proved challenging in the race conditions, but the students persevered and tried their very best. The final leg of the race was a mountain bike relay, with two bikes racing against each other through a pump track and a mud track.
At the end of the race, the Macleans College competitive team placed third; narrowly missing out on qualifying for the national finals. The development team finished ninth out of 16 teams.
These strong results reflect the students' high level of commitment to training and the superb endurance which has been built up during the year. The strong group of junior students will set Macleans College in good stead for future years.
