Posted on June 13, 2019

On Wednesday 5 June, forty-four Macleans College dancers competed at ShowQuest (formerly Stage Challenge) at Spark Arena.

This national competition for dance is sponsored by the Ministry of Education, ZM and RockQuest Promotions.  The 2019 competition held events in Whangarei, Nelson, Invercargill, Christchurch, Napier, Auckland, Wellington, Palmerston North, Hamilton, and Tauranga.

The Macleans College dancers spent months rehearsing a complex dance performance incorporating the styles of Jazz, Lyrical, Hip Hop, and Contemporary. The team was led by five choreographers from Senior NCEA dance: Anna Talbot (Batten House), Paris Williams (Batten), Lucy Pakenham (Kupe), Mia Bolton (Kupe), and Beth Snooks (Snell).

The quality of the performances from the competing schools around Auckland was very high. Macleans College came 3rd overall, with a further two awards presented to Macleans for Best Soundtrack, and the Outstanding Rangatahi Award (Best dancer out of approximately 800 dancers) for Year 9 student Jasmine Jones (Rutherford).
