Team Sailing Auckland Cup

Macleans College entered a team of eight sailors in the Auckland Cup which was sailed at the Royal Akarana Yacht Club last week.
The sailors competed in a 420, a double-handed boat with a helm and crew. The aim of teams racing is for three boats to work together and finish with an overall lower score than the other team. Teams racing requires more skill and tactics than typical fleet racing.
Over 75 races were completed across two days of the competition. The light winds made conditions tricky and unfortunately after some narrow losses Macleans College finished in 10th place out of 17 schools. Westlake Boys’ High School took out the title in a tightly contested final against Auckland Grammar School.
The students who took part were: Logan McKay (Rutherford House), Ben McKeen (Hillary), Pedro Miranda Corte-Real Vantacich (Batten), Madi Russell (Snell), Chenyou Song (Mansfield), Lara Teodorescu (Hillary), Gus Thompson (Upham), Tim Townend (Te Kanawa) and Tim McCulloch (Rutherford).
