Te Kanawa House volunteer at Ronald McDonald House

Posted on June 30, 2021

On Wednesday 23 June a group of Te Kanawa House Year 13 students and three teachers prepared and cooked a dinner for the families staying at Ronald McDonald Domain House.

This activity is one of the Te Kanawa House services to the community that they take part in each year.

The students, guided by the resident chef, prepared a Mexican dinner for approximately 100 people. The teamwork and effort from all students was outstanding. For many of them their experience in the kitchen was very limited so taking on such a huge task was not only impressive but the food also beautifully prepared and presented. The variety of dishes and quantity required meant the work was non-stop until the final clean up at 8.00 pm.

Te Kanawa House is delighted to help support Ronald McDonald Domain House and the families staying there. The school supports a number of charities within the community and it is important to help students experience this first hand. The support and organisation of the staff at the Ronald McDonald Domain House is outstanding.

All Te Kanawa House students helped raise funds for the purchase of ingredients by donating to a Coin Trail. A total of $260 was raised.

Many thanks to the following students for giving up their time for this event: Madeleine Bremner, Thomas Derraik, Tom Dupper, Ika Garraway, Mavish Gill, Erin Jin, Celia Lanigan, Karman Sodhi and Kevin Zhang.
