During the recent holidays, Te Kanawa House took two groups of students to Ronald McDonald House for four hours each day to play and entertain the young patients while they stayed in hospital.

The students organised games, face painting and cooking activities.

Te Kanawa House also took twenty-five students and five staff to Ronald McDonald House to cook meals for the families staying there, a total of nearly two hundred people.  They prepared a large amount of the food the night before in the school kitchens.  At the hospital, the staff and students prepared a smorgasbord meal and entertained the young patients with music and games.

Ronald McDonald House supports families when their child is in a New Zealand hospital away from home.  They help to relieve stresses like paying for accommodation near the hospital and organising family meals.

Throughout the year the students and staff of each whānau house offer support and fundraise for a charity.  These visits to Ronald McDonald House are part of Te Kanawa House supporting their chosen charity, the Child Cancer Foundation.
