Te Kanawa House raise over $9,000 for the Child Cancer Foundation

Posted on September 11, 2023

A year of fundraising for the Child Cancer Foundation culminated with a special house assembly in Te Kanawa House last week.

It was a fitting time to hold the event as September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.

The Te Kanawa House Service Captains, Linda Na and Brad Turrall, led the assembly, speaking about the fundraising efforts of the house throughout 2023 and the importance of giving.

Glen Fern, our very own Te Kanawa House band, got the show on the road with their rendition of ‘September’ by Earth Wind and Fire.

Next, the students who were to shave/cut their hair to help support children and their families on their cancer journey were welcomed into the assembly. This group of brave students not only lost their locks, but also raised $2,700 towards the final total.

At the end of the assembly, Linda and Brad announced the total fundraising amount, which came to a staggering $9,326. This money was raised from a number of events, including the street appeal, bake sales, Mount Taniwha carnival and the hair cut/shave.  A cheque was presented to the representatives from the Child Cancer Foundation.

Thank you to the Te Kanawa House Service Leaders who have led the fundraising efforts throughout the year.  Thank you also to the students, friends and families who have generously donated.
