Supreme recognition for Art Design student

Former Macleans College student Maggie Xian (Mansfield House 2017 – 2021) recently received supreme recognition for her NCEA Level 3 Art Design submission in being awarded the Top Art Design Scholar in New Zealand.
Maggie’s personal inquiry was located in an exploration of her own identity as a Chinese immigrant. Maggie moved to New Zealand as a young child in 2008. She identifies as being part of the 1.5 generation of immigrants, one who does not share the same early childhood memories as her New Zealand born peers but having largely grown up in New Zealand also does not have the same set of experiences as many first generation immigrants.
Maggie developed “The 1.5” project and designed collateral for a proposed series of events which would allow individuals who identify as members of the 1.5 generation to form connections and gain traction in representation through shared experience.
The success of the design work lay in Maggie’s ability to weave her research and practice together so fluidly within the framework of her personal investigation.
Along with the Top Scholar award in Level 3 Art Design Maggie also gained a Scholarship award for her art painting submission for the second year running.
