Superb Performance in Business Case Competition
Posted on June 14, 2018
A Macleans College team, represented by Yang Fan Yun (Snell House), Ricky Wang (Kupe), Alan Zhang (Kupe), and Hayley Xie (Upham) recently placed 2nd nationally in the 2018 National Schools Case Competition.
The National Schools Case Competition, organised by the University of Auckland, is the most prestigious business competition for high school students in New Zealand, with over 35 schools participating from around New Zealand. To reach the National Finals, the team had to get through two elimination rounds, including the semi-finals, cutting the number of teams to twelve, and finally six.
At the National Finals, teams were given four hours with no outside communication to analyse the issues faced by a business operating in New Zealand and recommend detailed strategies and implementations to address these, including financial projections. This year, the business analysed, Oxfam New Zealand, was particularly difficult as it is a non-profit organisation with a unique variety of business objectives. Despite this, the team did incredibly well and placed second nationally, narrowly losing out to the team from Pinehurst School.
Moreover, another team from Macleans College also successfully made the National Finals, which included Kieran Bettesworth (Kupe), Ying Gao (Hillary), Elizabeth Koh (Upham), and Alex Wang (Upham).
The teams would like to thoroughly thank both Mrs Ladkoo and Mr Caley for their guidance.
