Success at Regional Under 17 and Under 15 Fencing Competition

The Upper North Island Under 17 and Under 15 Fencing competition was recently held at Massey High School. Macleans students performed well with several notable performances.
On Saturday, in the Under 17 Mixed Sabre competition, Michael Purcell 12MLK was placed 1st and Nelson Lee 10HRS, (although he still qualifies as under 15), was placed 3rd. Nianda Weng 12PPR competing in his first tournament was placed 7th.
In the Under 17 Men’s Foil competition, Michael Purcell was the best placed with 8th. Also competing was Nick McGuire-Barnes 10OBT and Alex McGuire-Barnes 10TYT who were placed 13th and 14th respectively (although both still qualify as under 15).
Competing in their first competition, Katrina Zhang 12DUT and Elinor Wang 12DUT were placed 12th and 14th respectively in the Under 17 Women’s Foil competition.
On Sunday, in the Under 15 Men’s Foil competition, Nick McGuire-Barnes was placed 3rd equal and Alex McGuire-Barnes was placed 5th. Competing in his first competition Henry Lockhart 10HAK placed a commendable 8th.
The Macleans team are looking to build on this success at the National Under 15 and Under 17 Fencing Champs, being held over Anzac weekend in Auckland.
