Students of Spanish enjoy a flavourful afternoon
Posted on October 03, 2024
Macleans College senior students of Spanish recently enjoyed an afternoon of culture at the Bentley Pavilion.
The students used their knowledge of the Spanish language to interact with one another during the course of the afternoon. Spanish is the second most spoken language in the world and is the official language of 21 countries.
Following this, the students were introduced to the experience of eating paella. Year 11, 12 and 13 students shared this traditional rice dish, filled with chicken, chorizo, seafood and flavoured with paella’s most distinctive ingredient, saffron.
Paella is a typical Spanish dish that has existed for over two centuries. Traditionally from Valencia, today it is enjoyed all over Spain and the world. Paella is cooked in a large pan meant for feeding a community and bringing people together through food - a key component of culture in Spain.
The paella was cooked and served by food truck Paella Pan, run by founder and chef Aaron. Thank you to Aaron for sharing his culinary skills with Macleans College.
