Students brave the elements at Get to Go Adventure Race

Last week eight Macleans College students braved the atrocious weather conditions to participate in the Get to Go Adventure Race.

The team consisted of Martina Beavis (Kupe House), Katie Kendall (Kupe), Selina Wang (Upham), McKenzie Grobbelaar (Rutherford), Zac Wilson (Upham), Edward Winstone (Kupe), Vinicius Peterutto Smokou (Rutherford) and Owen Liu (Snell).

They underwent three eighty-minute events that tested them physically and mentally. Kayaking and stand up paddleboarding (SUP), mountain biking and a foot rogaine. Testing teamwork, fitness, navigation and co-ordination the group worked hard and earned a deserved fifth place in the mixed premier competition, beating out many outdoor education teams.

This was the first adventure race many of the juniors had competed in and was impressive considering the calibre of many of the other schools that are well known for their adventure racing teams.
