Posted on June 26, 2023
The first round of the New Zealand Physics and Mathematics Competition (NZPMC), held in May, saw a very strong showing from Macleans College students in both the junior and senior divisions.
Students in the top ten in their year group included:
Year 9
Chace Chong (Kupe), Ayan Shah (Upham), Benjamin Chan (Upham) and Isla Wang (Upham).
Year 10
Dalton Ma (Rutherford) and Yixin Pan (Snell).
Year 11
Jay Zhao (Rutherford), Cyril Chen (Mansfield), Alston Yam (Mansfield), Hayden Tong-Ho (Mansfield) and Bruce Zhang (Mansfield).
Year 12
Jiachen Hu (Te Kanawa) and Tianzexi Liu (Snell).
Year 13
Eric Lee (Batten).
This demanding academic competition is a very testing examination of Physics and Mathematics knowledge and skills, and only the top 1% of students nationwide qualify for the finals.
Dr Grose is pleased to report that these students, along with many more Macleans College students who only just missed the top 10, are through to the national finals in late July.
