Posted on July 31, 2017
Macleans College participated against fourteen other schools in the annual Stage Challenge Competition on Thursday 6 July at the Aotea Centre.
They performed for the top overall award in the RAW division. Following rehearsals and preparation they won 3rd place overall and individual awards of excellence in Performance skill, Choreography, Visual Enhancement and Costuming character.
The 80 strong group made up of both dancers and boys, and led by student choreographers: Cullen Neale (Hillary House), Siobhan Bishop (Snell), Stephanie Yiu (Te Kanawa), Paige Cordingley (Rutherford), Kayla Steele (Mansfield), Lauren Walters-Puttick (Upham), Anya John-Francke (Kupe) and Olivia Seward (Mansfield), devised a six-minute piece which they entitled ‘We’re all mad here’; drawing inspiration from Alice in Wonderland and the theme of drug abuse to highlight the issue of addiction.
By combining performance, production and choreography, the students conveyed their message of the harmfulness of drugs.
Thank you to the support crew, Emma Fromont (Mansfield) for costumes, Mrs Norman, and all other staff involved in Stage Challenge.
