Special Moments Enjoyed at the Big Sing Regionals

On Tuesday 11 June, 130 Macleans College singers took to the stage at the Big Sing regional festival, held at Auckland Town Hall.
Making their debut this year, the Macleans Massed Voices sang a medley of songs from the movie La La Land under the direction of Mrs McNabb. The singers then took to the stage in the three individual choirs, Men of Macleans led by Mr Miles and Mrs McNabb, Aria led by Miss Pridham and Macleans College Chorale (M.C.C) led by Mrs McNabb.
Some special moments were enjoyed by the audience which included a very atmospheric rendition of Wade in the Water which featured Avaneesh Belwalkar of Rutherford House and a world premiere performance of a newly commissioned work by composer Katherine Bell, E Mihi Atu. The new work is the first movement of a two movement work which will be performed by M.C.C with symphony orchestra accompaniment at the annual gala concert on July 4th.
E Mihi Atu featured soloists Danielle Tweedale (Rutherford), Michelle Delves (Hillary), Hayatt Al Joborry and Timothy Lim (both Mansfield) and was accompanied by the chamber orchestra.
M.C.C were runners up for the Te Tohu Manu Waiata (best performance of a single work using a Maori text) and received a highly commended award.
The choir now waits to hear on whether they will be selected for this year’s finale, which is to be held in Dunedin in August.
