A semester of Spanish study culminates in fiesta celebrations
Posted on December 04, 2024
A large group of Macleans College junior Spanish students recently met in the auditorium for a Spanish fiesta to celebrate Spanish language and culture.
The fiesta started with some aerobics, Spanish-style, to break the ice and get students into the mood. This was followed by an address from two Year 11 students who had been on the Spanish trip earlier this year. Madison Blakeney and Teodora Cosma (both Rutherford House) spoke to the juniors about what the trip had entailed and their personal highlights and memories from this unforgettable experience.
After this, students were treated to a presentation and demonstration of flamenco dancing, from Maria Snijders of Flamenco New Zealand. Students were taught about the different aspects of flamenco and invited to participate, either from their seat or on the stage. Many students donned the costumes and enthusiastically joined in - embracing the spirit of flamenco and following Maria’s dance moves or performing some more spontaneous moves.
All in all the students had a lot of fun exploring this aspect of Spanish culture and it was a fitting way to round out their semester of study. Many thanks to Maria for sharing her talent and knowledge with us.
