Six Awards at Stage Challenge

Macleans College was yet again represented to an exceptionally high standard at the Stage Challenge 2016 competition held at Aotea Centre on Thursday 30 June.

The group of 70 dancers, led by student choreographers Paige Cordingley (Rutherford), Stephanie Yiu (Te Kanawa), Cullen Neale (Hillary), Kayla Steele (Mansfield), Chelsea Gribble (Mansfield), Lauren Walters-Puttick (Upham), Siobhan Bishop (Snell) and Olivia Seward (Mansfield) entered the RAW division with their piece entitled ‘Voiceless’. The 5-minute performance piece portrayed the struggles faced by the tens of thousands of children each day trapped in forced labour, child slavery and child trafficking.

Months of practice and hard-work culminated in a successful night, in which the group was awarded with a total of six awards, including Excellences in Costuming and Character, Choreography, Soundtrack, Performance Skill, Drama, and Visual Enhancement.

Teacher-in-charge, Vicki Norman oversaw the smooth running of the years’ work and accompanied the group on the day of the performance, along with teachers Emily Gleeson, Casey Ford, Todd Davidson, Tina Mair and Carleena Walsh. Support from David Norris, ‘The No Project’, the Macleans Hair and Makeup crew, and the lighting crew were also much appreciated.

Stage Challenge is a dance, drama and design spectacular reflecting the personalities, concerns, hopes, dreams and interests of students. The RAW division focuses purely on the raw elements of performance including choreography, technical skill and dance performance.
