Four Macleans College fencers participated in the prestigious President’s Cup, held at Mount Albert Grammar over the last weekend of June.

This competition is not limited to age categories, and is open to all fencers throughout New Zealand. Most fencers competing were not students.

Year 11 student Larry Lin (Batten House) was one of 18 competitors in the Open Men’s Foil division. In the final bout he was narrowly defeated 15-14 to be awarded the silver medal. This is an incredible achievement for a student who is only 15 years old.

Year 12 student Matt Wang (Mansfield) also participated in the foil division and placed ninth overall.

Year 9 siblings Harry Zhou and Maxwell Chen (both Upham) fenced in the Open Mixed Sabre division, in which there were 14 participants. They placed ninth and sixth respectively.
