Sheilah Winn Festival 2020

Posted on June 22, 2020

A carelessly dropped handkerchief, a happy dagger and a bottle of bitter poison: this year’s Sheilah Winn Shakespeare Festival entries had it all.

Two groups saw the culmination of four months of work preparing their scenes from ‘Othello’ and ‘Romeo and Juliet’.  Due to Covid-19 restrictions, students had to submit a video recording this year rather than perform their scenes live.  This did not stop the Year 9, 10 and 11 students giving outstanding performances and capturing the emotions of their characters.

Joe Blest’s (Upham House) scheming Lago had Kyle Du Preez’s (Hillary) Othello falling to his knees from jealousy.  It was impossible to be unmoved by Mickhe Willemse’s (Mansfield) distraught Juliet as she discovered Romeo (played by Jennifer Lum of Mansfield) had died just moments before she woke.

Results of the competition will be released later this month.
