Macleans College had multiple successes at the Shakespeare Regional Festival this month including being selected to attend the National Festival in Wellington.
Six Macleans College groups entered this year with performances ranging from the pastoral comedy of ‘As You Like It’ to the tragic deaths in ‘Romeo and Juliet’.
Competing against groups from six other schools from south and east Auckland, Macleans College’s ‘Midsummer Night’s Dream’ performance won the award for best five minute scene. This was a student directed piece put together in just eight weeks by Tamzin Scullard (Mansfield House) and Lucy Jurd (Mansfield). Damien Hollins (Hillary) also received an award for best directed combat scene, earning the school a workshop in stage combat.
The winning group will now travel to Wellington over King’s Birthday weekend to compete against 48 other schools in the Shakespeare Globe Centre New Zealand (SGCNZ) University of Otago Sheilah Winn National Shakespeare Festival.
