Senior Painting students visit art exhibitions

Recently the senior painting students attended the Auckland Art Gallery to see the historic Frances Hodgkins and Guerrilla Girls exhibitions followed by visits to smaller galleries in the city.
The students were greeted by well-known New Zealand painter Luise Fong who introduced the students to the exhibition and gave an overview of Frances Hodgkins’ life and works.
The still life painting pictured below was painted in 1935 and was titled self-portrait. She felt uncomfortable about being photographed so rejected traditional self-portrait styles and painted highly individual, semi abstracted groups of favourite objects.
