Senior Get to Go Adventure
Posted on March 23, 2017
On Wednesday 8 March 16 Macleans College students braved the torrential early morning rain to compete in the Senior Get to Go Adventure race held at Totara Park.
Four teams of four participated in the three hour adventure race. The teams did well dealing with the challenges of mountain biking, problem solving, navigation and tactical rogaine route choices over the three hours.
All teams performed admirably finishing in the top half of the 21 teams. The boys team consisting of Cole Brown (Snell), Wilhelm Muller (Kupe), Ciaran Stuart (Kupe) and Brandan Laurenzi (Upham) placed 3rd overall. Also two of the teams place 3rd and 4th in the mixed category (7th and 8th overall). The girls team placed 9th overall but were the first all-girls team in that category.
The event was set up by Hillary Outdoors and involved not only physical but mental challenges involving advanced teamwork and problem solving challenges. The navigation side of the event was important with route selection being a large deciding factor on the success of the team.
Overall it was a good experience for the largely new team, and bodes well for future events.
