Two Macleans College students, Emily Gillion (Snell House) and Chris Preece (Rutherford) have been selected to represent New Zealand in the upcoming U18-Futsal National Tournament, for the Women’s and Men’s U-18 squads respectively.

Emily as a Flanker and Chris as a Goalkeeper. Selection for these teams was based on performances at the national league and age-group competitions. They will be playing in the OFC Youth Futsal Championship to be held at Bruce Pulman Park from October 4 - 7. Twelve teams from across Oceania will take part in the men’s and women’s tournaments. The winners will qualify for the Buenos Aires 2018 Youth Olympic Games, where futsal will be debuting.

A former student Dayna Manak (Batten House 2010 - 2014) has been selected as a Flanker for the Futsal Ferns squad. The Futsal Ferns are New Zealand’s first ever female national futsal team. They play New Caledonia in three matches at the Trans-Pacific Futsal Cup to be held in Tauranga from September 12 - 14 during the AIMS Games.

Futsal is a format of five–a-side football played on a hard court, smaller than a football pitch and mainly indoors.
