School prefects thanked

Over the course of the lockdown seventeen Macleans College school prefects participated in an elderly calling initiative, which was run by Simeon Brown, the MP of Pakuranga.

The students were each given around 50 telephone numbers and had the task of calling to check in on the elderly within the Howick Pakuranga area.  If students found anyone who was in need, they were to write down their details which would be sent through to Simeon Brown’s department, and from there, they would send out the appropriate help - buying their groceries etc.

In order to thank the students, Simeon visited the school on Friday 5 June to award them all with parliamentary certificates and muffins.

The students really enjoyed the experience, as they were able to continue making a difference and helping those in need whilst in the lockdown.  As a result, Simeon’s office, with the help of the students, was able to make around 3000 phone calls and provide help to those in need.
