Samoan Language Week celebrated at Macleans College

Posted on June 14, 2022

Talofa Lava. This month the Macleans College aiga celebrated Vaiaso o le Gagana Samoa (Samoan Language Week).

The theme this year was: Fa’aāuāu le folauga i le va’a o tautai – Continue the Voyage with Competent Wayfinders of the Ocean.

The amazing students involved in the Maori and Pasifika Leadership team supported a range of fun activities. To start the week students and staff sang the Samoan National Anthem in the pouring rain while the Samoan flag was raised with pride.

The Principal Mr Hargreaves was presented with a traditional Ula Fala (Chief’s necklace) as a sign of respect and in honour of his leadership. During the week staff and students also learnt a lot about Samoa, its culture and the country’s road to independence. One of the highlights was the video put together where students and staff learnt how to introduce themselves in Samoan - fa’afetai lava to everyone who gave it a go!

On behalf of the Macleans Samoan aiga we would like to thank all staff and students who supported the first ever celebration of Samoan Language Week.

O le alai le pule ole tautua.
