Samoan Language Week 2023

Talofa Lava. The Macleans College aiga recently celebrated Vaiaso o le Gagana Samoa (Samoan Language Week).
The theme this year was 'Mitamita i lau gagana, maua'a lou fa'asinomaga' which translates to 'Be proud of your language and grounded in your identity.
To start the week students and staff sang the Samoan national anthem despite the terrible weather while the Samoan flag was raised with pride.
The Principal Mr Hargreaves was presented with a custom Ula (necklace) which was made especially for him. This necklace represents respect, leadership and his accomplishments as the Pule (Principal) and the school are grateful for his support.
To end the week Faithfulness Saumani (Kupe House) led the full school assembly in a Samoan chant which the Macleans College students picked up with ease. It was great to see Mr Hargreaves by her side participating and for him to showcase his CHEEEHOOO to the whole school.
Fa’afetai to all students and staff who joined in on the activities and made an effort to honour the week.
O le alai le pule ole tautua.
