At the recent 2023 Vision Feast Film Festival award ceremony, Erica O’Neill (Upham House) was awarded the top Secondary School prizes for Best New Zealand Secondary School Writer Award and Best New Zealand Secondary School Director Award.
The annual Vision Feast Film Festival recognises visual storytelling and showcases great filmmaking in a range of local and international categories.
Included as part of the awards, Erica received a $6,000 scholarship to attend the SAE Institute, a leading tertiary educator in creative media industries. The award recognised her role in the creation of the short film, ‘Viral’ created in Year 12 Media Studies with her collaborators Troy Telfer (Rutherford) and Phoebe James (Upham).
SAE gave feedback on the award calling the filmmakers “fresh new talent”. The film had a “unique narrative” that would “inspire and captivate audiences”.
‘Viral’ was awarded the top prize at last year’s Macademy Awards and can be viewed here along with other films from the showcase of filmmaking at Macleans College
