Rotorua Great Forest Rogaine
Posted on August 24, 2017
Last month Mr Hey took fourteen students from the Adventure Race team to compete in the Great Forest Rogaine competition.
The event was a three hour foot race where the racers had to navigate the Redwoods and collect as many points in the time frame as possible.
This was a steep learning curve for the juniors who for many this was the first time navigating in heavy forest. The seniors performed well with Cole Brown (Snell House) and Jonathan Li (Snell) placing third in the Junior category (under 18). Gemma Black (Upham) and Charlotte Smaill (Hillary) performed commendably being the third girls team across the line in the Junior category, and placing sixth overall.
If Cole Brown and Jonathan Li competed in the Open Mens division, they would have placed second, which shows how competitive the Junior division is with many of the competitors being veterans of the Hillary Challenge such as Trident High School and Taradale College.
The team eagerly looks forward to next year where they hope to put the lessons learnt into action.
