Roller coaster adventure during 48 Hours Filmmaking Competition
Posted on August 22, 2022
Four teams from the Filmmaking Club participated in the 2022 48 Hours Filmmaking Competition held earlier this month.
This is the 20th year of the national competition which attracts thousands of amateur and professional filmmakers across the country, including a number of school teams. The competition has also been a space for the next generation of filmmakers to be discovered including Taika Waititi.
On Friday at 7 pm elements that must be included in the films are announced. This year teams were challenged to include a sign, a whisper, a bird’s eye view (or a worm’s eye view) shot and a character who is a gatekeeper. On top of this, each team is allocated one of ten genres. Two of the Macleans College teams were given ‘crime’ as their genre, the other two teams had to make a ‘comedy of errors’ and a ‘musical or dance’ film. Typically films will be written on the Friday night, filmed on the Saturday and edited on the Sunday before being submitted at 7 pm - making for a roller coaster adventure of a weekend.
Congratulations to the four teams. Their films will now be played in online heats; selected films will be chosen for the regionals and then national final. These films are also eligible for the Macademy Awards in term four, which will showcase the school’s best filmmaking from this year.
