Rock Climbing Nationals 2022
Posted on September 13, 2022
A group of four Macleans College students travelled to Tauranga to compete in the New Zealand Secondary Schools’ Rock Climbing competition.
The climbers participated in top rope climbing, bouldering and speed climbing.
All of the students performed well in a very intense competition, with Joshua Campbell and Cullen Campbell (both Batten House) both progressing to the finals in the Junior Boys Competition. This was fiercely contested, with many competitors topping their climbs and conquering the boulder problems, meaning that the smallest error was costly. Ultimately, very few points separated first place from the other competitors. As part of the finals competition, Cullen won the boys’ speed climb.
Final results for the Macleans College climbers were:
Student | Division | Placing |
---|---|---|
Tara Barrett (Upham) | Junior Girls | 20th |
Lydia Anderson (Mansfield) | Senior Girls | 17th |
Joshua Campbell | Junior Boys | 8th |
Cullen Campbell | Junior Boys | 4th |
Climbing is a growing sport internationally and is marked by a spirit of camaraderie and supportiveness as climbers strive to conquer the challenges put before them. The Macleans College climbers exhibited this throughout the competition and can be extremely proud of the way in which they represented the school and performed throughout the competition.
Many thanks to Mr Ko for his coaching and support throughout the season.
