Remarkable Feat at New Zealand Secondary Schools Swimming Championships
Posted on September 20, 2018
The 2018 New Zealand Secondary Schools Swimming Championships were held in Wellington last weekend.
This competition hosted 158 schools, with over 600 swimmers competing in 46 events.
Year 9 student Gustav Campher (Kupe House) swam in eleven events. Of these eleven events, he placed second in three (50, 100 and 200m Backstroke), and third in two (50 and 100m Butterfly).
Gustav was not only able to improve his times from the previous weekend’s competition, but also his personal best in all of the eleven events. This alone is a remarkable feat, especially at an age where times are not easily improved on.
Gustav was the only Macleans College representative, but he managed to score enough points to place Macleans College 20th out of 71 for the Boys Points Trophy. An impressive result.
